What is Probate Court?

As the name would indicate, the
Probate Court's first responsability is to supervise(probate) the
estates of people who die in Whifield County.
In addition to supervising estates of the deceased, the Probate Court
handles a wide variety of legal matters and maintains a variety of
important records.
The duties of the Probate Court include the following:
* Determining if wills are valid
* Overseeing estates of people who die with or without a will
* Traffic tickets including DUI in unincorporated areas of Whitfield County
* Guardianships of incapacitated adults
* Conservatorship of adults and children (conservators manage money or mother assets of people who by reason of age or infirmity cannot manage mtheir own affairs)
* Emergency mental evaluations (sometimes called 10-13 hearings)
* Minor settlements (settlements made on behalf of minors for personal minjuries or other losses)
* Marriage licenses
* Gun Permits
* Fireworks permits
* Cattle brands
